A 24-year-old man today stood mute in the Supreme Court this morning as premeditated murder charges were put to him.
Julian Markus Washington, 24, was charged in the monthly Arraignment's Session with the premeditated murder of Stefan Burgess on January 8, 2012.
When asked by registrar Peter Miller what his plea is, Mr Washington stood silent in the dock. Asked two more times, Mr Washington maintained his silence.
Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves then said: “The court enters a not guilty plea for Mr Washington.”
The defendant was also charged with the attempted murder of Davano Jakai Bremar on the same date.
He was further charged with using a firearm to commit an indictable offence and possession of ammunition.
Mr Washington remained mute as the additional charges were read to him as well.
Mr Burgess, 24, was gunned down on The Glebe Road on January 8, 2012.
Mr Greaves set the matter down for trial on March 31, 2014 and remanded Mr Washington into custody.
