Weekend downpour pushes rainfall above monthly average
Bermuda was drenched by almost three inches of rain over the weekend — pushing this month’s total rainfall to 8.5”, well above the normal average for August.
Bermuda Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Torgerson said: “We are well above the normal rainfall of 5.64” — nearly three inches up.
High pressure
“The reason is we have high pressure to the east and low pressure to the west, which is holding this weather system over us.
“It is remarkable we get two or three very wet days in a row. It’s lucky for our tanks, but unlucky for people like our boating community.”
Bermuda was hit by heavy rain and thunder and lightning storms right through the weekend.
And, according to the Weather Service website, another cold front is due to approach from the northeast tomorrow (Thursday) will bring the potential for more showers and thunderstorms towards the weekend, as well as strong winds.
