Pair complete Italian job at Horseshoe Bay
Italian pair Alex Mingozzi and Niccolo Strano shrugged off the wet weather to win the 2013 ITF Bermuda Beach Tennis International Tournament at Horseshoe Bay Beach on Sunday.
Mingozzi and Strano won the men’s pro division 6-0, 6-0 over Vini Font, of Brazil, and Italy’s Michele Folegatti. After last year’s final defeat it was a return to the winner’s circle for Mingozzo, who has now won four times on the island. In the ladies’ pro event, Brazilian pair Joanna Cortez and Samantha Barijan overcame Federica Bacchetta and Patricia Diaz in a three-setter, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Mike Toyer and Andre Moolman beat Dean Mello and James Finnigan in the men’s amateur division, while Liz Stewart and Jane Lau defeated Kim and Amanda Burns in the ladies’ amateur division.
Stewart also enjoyed success with a win in the mixed amateur division, pairing up with Dave Jenkins to beat Mello and Christine Junneman.
