Reggie Lambe’s season came alive at the weekend as he laid on a crucial equalizer for Toronto in their basement battle against DC United.
The two struggling East Conference sides fought out a 1-1 draw in Washington, which saw the Bermudian former Ipswich Town player create his side’s equalizer for Bobby Convey.
It was the first assist for Lambe in a season that has seen him struggle to make an impact under new manager Ryan Nelsen.
But after DC, who dominated possession, had gone ahead in the 10th minute through Dwayne de Rosario, it was left to Lambe and fellow winger Convey to rescue a point for the Canadian outfit.
“I think we could have finished our chance better but saying that we came back from 1-0 down and it’s good to get a draw,” Lambe told Toronto FC TV.
He added: “Right before the goal Bobby had said let’s switch wings for a bit. So I got the ball, I drove forward and I just saw him on the edge of the box and laid it to him and he finished brilliantly.
“It’s good to get an assist and help the team come back into the game. I wish we’d finished our chances in the first half so we could have gone on to win the game but a draw is good.”
Lambe said there was plenty of motivation in the away dressing room at half-time to get back into the game and ensure they didn’t slip to a damaging defeat.
He said: “There’s always stuff said in the dressing room to pump up the players. It came from everyone actually — from the team captain to the youngest player on the team — so we’re all pushing each other and we came back to 1-1 and I was glad to get a point.”
Toronto play New England next on Friday.
