Best: ‘Harry can help Nahki’

Bermuda football legend Clyde Best believes Nahki Wells should seize the chance to move to QPR, if a reported £3m bid from the Championship side is forthcoming.

English tabloid The Daily Star stated Hoops boss Harry Redknapp is lining up a move for Bradford City’s Bermudian striker, a deal that would make him the island’s first £1m+ footballer.

Wells, 23, on Saturday became the first Bantams player to score in eight consecutive games and has five in four games already this season. 

He’s netted a total of 44 goals in 96 games for the club and helped fire them to League Two promotion and the Capital One Cup final last season.

City, understandably,  are desperate to hang on to their man and stopped him talking to the media after his weekend exploits.

The club’s resolve, though, is set to be tested in the lead up to the end of the transfer window on Monday.

Best, who played with Redknapp during their time as West Ham team-mates in the late 60’s and early 70’s, told the Bermuda Sun: “It would be a great move to QPR, of course it would. 

“No-one knows how to handle players better than Harry.

He added: “If they give Nahki service, he will score. He’s proven that. And no-one knows that better than Harry, who was a very decent winger himself.  You’ve also got Joe Jordan (coach) there who was a top striker, so there are good people there.

“The most important thing for a manager is to be able to handle players. If the coach has confidence in you, it’s a big help.

“Nahki’s record speaks for itself. He’s a goalscorer, that’s natural, that’s God given. Knowing Harry like I know him, he has a good personality, gets on with everybody, and is a fun guy to be around.”

While talk of a big-money move — Peterborough have already had a six-figure bid  rejected — is sure to get fans talking, Best says it will have no effect on the striker. 

“It shouldn’t bother him,” said Best. “If Gareth Bale is going for £86m, this is just a drop in the box, it’s peanuts.

“I don’t see any reason why he can’t play in the Championship. He’s proven himself in the lower divisions and if you’re a goalscorer, you are a goalscorer.” n
