A special committee of MPs set up to look at the island’s election system is due to meet for the first time today (Friday).
And committee chairman Walton Brown said that a “key issue” was whether parliamentary candidates are legally required to make a declaration of business interests involving Government.
PLP MP Mr Brown said: “The committee has a mandate to review matters relating to elections in Bermuda and to report its findings and to make recommendations.”
The Select Committee on Elections, in addition to Mr Brown, is made up of the OBA’s Jeanne Atherden, Susan Jackson and Glen Smith, as well as the PLP’s Kim Wilson. It will hold its inaugural meeting at 10am.
Mr Brown added that the committee, which was established by Parliament in June this year, welcomed verbal or written submissions to the committee.
Walton Brown can be contacted at [email protected] or on 292-4708.
