A 57-year-old man was today fined $500 after he admitted possession of ecstasy.

Clinton Simpson was in a car on Middle Road at the junction of Verdmont Road in Smith’s when police saw what appeared to be a drug transaction.

The officers spoke to Simpson and found him holding a bag containing three blue pills.

Those pills turned out to be ecstasy.

The court heard Simpson didn’t know the pills were ecstasy, as he was holding the bag for the driver of the car.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner noted Simpson has previous convictions for drug possession and importation dating back to 1974.

Mr Warner imposed a $500 fine on Simpson and gave him 30 days to pay it.
