I'm going all out to break record, says Nahki

Nahki Wells says breaking the all-time best Bradford City scoring streak tomorrow would be a special moment.

If the 23-year-old Bermudian striker finds the net at home to Sheffield United in League One, he will become the first player to ever score in eight consecutive matches for the club.

It’s an accomplishment the former Dandy Town man admits he’s thought more and more about this past week.

And as the chance of achieving such a feat has sunk in, so his eagerness to etch his name into Bantams folklore has grown. He told the Bermuda Sun: “It’s always good to get your name in the record books and I’ll be going out there and doing the best I can.

“First and foremost I have to go out there and make sure we get three points. And if I do put in a good performance and hit the back of the net, then even better.

“It’s the sort of thing I take as it comes but the more I think about it the more I think how great an achievement it would be.

“Not many players achieve these goals so the more I think about it the more important it becomes.

“I’ll be doing the best I can to find the back of the net.”

He added: “Reaching this goal would mean the world to the fans — no-one’s ever scored in eight consecutive games for them before. To have my name come up as having done that would mean a lot to them and a lot to me.”

Wells’ has picked up from where he left off in the club’s League Two play-off success, scoring four in four games so far this campaign.

But he expects the Yorkshire derby against the Blades to be physical and frenetic.

He said: “Overall it hasn’t felt like a massive step up [to League One]. But I think Saturday’s game will show us how big a step up it is when the big clubs come along. It’s a Yorkshire derby and it means a lot to the fans as they showed against Rotherham and Sheffield United in the cup.

“But to play United in the league at a very important time of the season, it’s going to be a feisty one.”
