After last week’s dose of Around the Island powerboat racing, it’s back to football this week as the Bermuda Sun once again dives into its vaults.
Back in the day when footballers had less bling, facial hair was, shall we say, less styled, and shorts were undoubtedly shorter (calm down ladies), Bermuda welcomed a team from Europe to the island.
The first picture on this story shows two players contesting the ball —but that’s all the information available for now.
As in previous weeks, just for fun, let me know what you remember from the match.
I’m looking for the date of the game, the players and teams involved, the result and any other memories or stories you have from the occasion.
Simply email [email protected] and the best ones will be published in the Sun next Friday.
Last week we featured the second picture on this story — the Ghost, the winner of the 1986 Around the Island race.
And a big thanks to Katharyn Albouy-Grant, who emailed in to tell me who the driver was.
She wrote: “The driver was Derrick ‘aka Chicken’ Simons and he finished at Ferry Reach. My father, the late Eugene Albouy, always took me to boat racing every Sunday without fail.”
Co-pilot to ‘Chicken’ was Ivan Tuzo, for the record.
Keep the correspondence coming.
