All eyes were on Reggie Lambe’s MLS game at the weekend as Toronto FC took on Seattle Sounders.
That’s because it saw the debut of Clint Dempsey’s American homecoming with the Sounders following his big-money switch from Tottenham (he signed a $33 million deal that included a $9 million transfer and a three-and-a-half-year, $24 million contract).
Bermudian Lambe, who’s endured a tough season in Toronto, couldn’t prevent a 2-1 defeat but almost helped get an equalizer with classy run in the 66th minute that nearly ended with former Liverpool defender Djimi Traore putting the ball into his own net.
Lambe was subbed in the 72st minute. Toronto are now 4-11-8 for the season.
