Bermudians love to look their best and they they have no qualms about spending good time and effort making sure of it.

The Bermuda Sun’s new monthly hair and make-up column aims to help you look even better with top make-up and hairstyle tips from the team at The Club, Elbow Beach Hotel. What’s more, each month one lucky reader will get the chance to win a make-over and photo shoot to appear in the Bermuda Sun. Just answer a simple question and names will be entered into a draw (see below). We will also feature a Product of the Month available at The Club. The team invited me along to show the magic they can do. This is the first “Before and After” shoot of many more to come. Enjoy!

The ‘natural glam’ look

Christopher Vee

On Sarah we wanted what I have dubbed “ the natural glam look”

• Skin is prepped first with “Ultra Under Base” by Kryolan

• Let skin absorb what it needs then dab off any excess

• I then used three shades of cream foundation from Kryolans “ Derma Color  Light” palette to conceal, correct and lightly contour the face

After setting with translucent loose powder, brows filled slightly for natural finish

• Eye shadow base used first to prevent fading

• Then warm neutral colour used all over eye from lash line to brow bone to brighten eye area

• Then a copper shimmer powder shadow from Kryolans “ Viva Brilliant  Colour Medley” palette was used on lid up to crease

• Lined upper and lower lash line with #20 waterproof eye pencil from  Kryilan in Dark Brown

• Using a dark brown pencil instead of black gives drama without harshness

• Follow with lots of black mascara

• A warm sienna toned blush was used

• Lip colour was kept simple. High Gloss from Kryolan in “ First Love”

• Finish with light bronzing all over and down to the neck to warm up entire face.

Hair

StylzbyTraci of Bersalon

I washed Sarah’s hair with Curvaceous Shampoo by Redken (excellent line for curly hair). I towel dried her hair in between the wash and condition as leaving moisture/water in the hair before conditioning creates frizz due to the conditioner sitting on top of the hair cuticle rather than inside. Conditioned with Curvaceous conditioner.

• I then added “Ringlet” Curvaceous product to keep the curl together before
diffusing the hair.

• Sarah wanted a more evening sassy look, I wanted to enhance her beautiful features such as her cheek bones and eyes. We decided to pull her hair slick to the sides, leaving more voluminous curls on top.

• I added #16 Redken Gel to the sides to give it hold, and gripped the hair by twirling horizontal sections from the crown to behind the ear. Each section I made sure to use a bobbi pin placing it over the twirled section and pushing the teeth towards the face, so no pins would show and it will hold tighter.

• I finished with a shine spray from Redken, and for one last product #23 hold hairspray by Redken.

Product of the Month to keep the frizz out and have fabulous curls would be one of my favourite: Ringlet from Redkens Curvaceous line. Ringlet works well for those beachy curls as well!
