A superb Aaliyah Nolan hat-trick and an Eva Frazzoni strike gave Bermuda the lead in Group Three of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-17 Qualifying Tournament, when they defeated Bahamas 4-2 at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Puerto Rico.
Bahamas’ Haley Mallion scored the opening goal in the fourth minute to put her team in the lead, but Bermuda responded quickly through Nolan, who equalized just five minutes later.
She bagged her second in the 18th minute to end the first half 2-1 in Bermuda’s favour.
And in the second period Nolan came out clearly determined to complete her hat-trick.
After several close attempts, she completed her treble in the 61st minute to make it 3-1.
The Bahamas did not give up, however, and in the 80th minute, Keisha McCartney scored their second goal. Three minutes later, Frazzoni found the back of the net to seal a 4-2 victory for Bermuda.
The matches continue today when Puerto Rico take on Bahamas, while on Sunday, hosts Puerto Rico will meet Bermuda.
Bermuda’s opening win means they top Group One at 6:00pm to complete the contest in Group One.
