International news agency Associated Press has followed up on environmental advocate Philippe Cousteau’s trip to Bermuda. CNN special correspondent Mr Cousteau is the grandson of the legendary ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. He is on the island to help promote the proposed Bermuda government-led Blue Halo project to create possibly the largest marine reserve in the Atlantic. The story has already been followed up by numerous news outlets across the world.
Matt Rand, Campaign Director for Global Ocean Legacy at Pew Charitable Trust, which is working on Blue Halo with government, told the Bermuda Sun: “It is exciting that the world is already starting to notice what Bermuda is considering doing here. I am very encouraged to see international attention at this early stage of the development of a marine reserve in Bermuda. Once Bermuda takes a strong action the world will notice. It would be a major political development for Bermuda and there is an opportunity to create a legacy and
image for the country.”
Philippe Cousteau managed to fit in a dive trip on Wednesday with his fiancée Ashlan Gorse as well as representatives from Pew. Here are some pictures taken during the trip to the famous Cristobal Wreck.
