Dockyard star of new live webcam

A new state-of-the-art webcam has started beaming live footage of Dockyard around the globe.

The Port Webcam has been positioned on Commissioner’s House to give the best view of cruise ships arriving in the West End and other goings on.

The new system went live for the first time this morning and has already attracted attention from hundreds of online viewers as well as the CruiseCritic website.

The Port Webcam is the brainchild of businessmen Lou Gnandt and David Balmforth who run a firm in the US called PTZtv.

They have already set up similar operations in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Key West.

Joanna Cranfield, Business Development Manager for WEDCO, said: “Wedco was approached by PTZtv a few months ago with a request to add the Royal Naval Dockyard to their list of Port Webcams.

“We were excited at the prospect and after consideration, put them in touch with the Dr. Harris at the National Museum of Bermuda as the Commissioners House provides such a wonderful all round view of the area.

“We are delighted that this has become a reality and people will be able to have a good look around prior to arrival or merely as a point of interest.”

The project has been spearheaded in Bermuda by Dock Manager Willie Freeman, Dr Edward Harris, WEDCO and Northrock.

Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell said: "What a great idea and a great marketing tool for Dockyard and Bermuda.

"People from all over the world can now log on to their computer and see the activity in Dockyard and the beauty of the island.

"This is already generating much interest with people now wanting to book a holiday in Bermuda. On behalf of everyone in Bermuda I offer my thanks to Mr Freeman, Dr Harris, Northrock Communications and WEDCo for helping to show why Bermuda is so much more."
