Decade-old speeding ticket dismissed

A woman today appeared in court to face a speeding ticket from 11 years ago and had the matter dismissed.

Pamela Wainwright appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning for a ticket from November 2001.

She was due to appear in court in January 2002, but failed to appear.

Addressing the court, Wainwright said: “I can only assume that I was off the island, that I was away when I was supposed to appear.”

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner then asked if she was living in Bermuda at the time and “rumbling about”.

Wainwright said she wasliving and working in Bermuda.

Mr Warner then said: “This information is November 2001. This is some 12 years old and it would be unfair to pursue this.

The matter was then dismissed. The charge wasn’t actually read to Wainwright.
