The Kappa Classic is to host their All Star presentation night where the standout performers from March’s youth football tournament will be celebrated.
The Kappa Classic started in 1999 with 12 teams and has grown to such as extent that over three days from March 22 this year, 72 sides representing 14 clubs featuring over 1,000 players — boys and girls — competed at the National Sports Centre.
The tournament committee voted on the top performers and has picked an All Star first team and second team for the under-8, under-10, under-12 and under-14 teams.
The presentation night will take place on Friday April 19 at 6:30pm at the Whitney Institute auditorium. All players and parents are invited.
Craig Tyrell, chairman of the Kappa Classic Committee, said: “The tournament is a three-day tournament and the players would have played a minimum of three games in the group stages and if they advance to the semis and final they have extra games.
“To play that amount of football in that period of time is a testament to both their skill and their stamina.
“So the players’ skill or good sportsmanship is something that is definitely worth recognizing.
“The state the world is in today, we’d love to recognise people for doing positive things.”
The evening will also see the winners of the essay competition presented with their prizes.
Each player was invited to submit a one-page essay on “What the Kappa Classic means to me”. The three winners are Jarryd Richardson (Valencia White Under-10), Elisha Thomas (HPWC Under-14) and Evan Washington (Valencia Black Under-10).
They will each receive an iPad mini as a reward for their efforts.
