Antwan Russell scored his first goal for English club Ilkeston as they claimed a draw with Evo-Stik League Premier Division front-runners North Ferriby today.
Bermuda striker Russell, who made his debut for the Derbyshire club in midweek after signing from Robin Hood until the end of the season, put his team 2-1 up and on the brink of a fine win, only for North Ferriby to equalise with a disputed penalty.
Russell, who is the first current international to play for the club, came on with around 30 minutes remaining and quickly opening his account.
Picking the ball up inside the opponent’s half, he beat a defender before passing the ball coolly into the net.
Manager Kevin Wilson said: "Antwan showed his class with a fine goal and and hopefully that's the first of many he wlll score for us. It would have been even better if it had been the winner."
After his first appearance, again off the bench, on Thursday against FC Buxton, Russell told the Ilkeston Advertiser: ”It was different to what I am used to, more physical but good.
“When I left [Bermuda] it was 75 degrees and I was in my shorts but I am sure I will get used to it here. I am really looking forward to it and playing.”
