The Progressive Labour Party's Shadow Minister for Labour and Home Affairs Walter Roban today called on The One Bermuda Alliance to come clean on allegations that as many as 150 people have lost their jobs and are no longer working for government.
"The PLP understands that numerous Bermudians contracted to work with government have been callously fired by the OBA. If this is true, this reckless decision has added to the island's jobless figures and could create an additional strain on financial assistance, which have already seen their budget slashed. We call on the OBA to stop hiding, be accountable, remove the uncertainty and come clean. The OBA must detail the government services that are likely to be impacted by these job cuts. Bermudian taxpayers are entitled to know what effect any cuts in personnel will have on the delivery of services."
Shadow Minister Roban concluded, "The first months of the OBA's tenure has been marked by broken promises, an unwillingness to answer questions and a lack of commitment to creating opportunities for Bermudians. The OBA must adjust their behavior and their approach swiftly. The OBA promise to create 2000 jobs will be meaningless if through reckless measures they become Bermuda's primary job eliminator.”
