Twitter is continuing to grow, but maybe not as fast as company execs had hoped it would. A report by eMarketer on Tuesday said that it expects Twitter to have 227.5 million users worldwide by the end of 2014 (a user is defined as someone who accesses their account at least once a month).
It isn’t expected to top the 300 million mark until 2016 and the 400 million mark until 2019. By comparison, Facebook has over one billion users.
The growth projections are in contradiction to what Twitter had forecast as they expected 400 million users by the end of 2014, according to a Wall Street Journal article.
Most of Twitter’s growth will happen in the Asia-Pacific market, and that’s not counting China.
