A 30-year old man who appeared in Magistrates’ Court for the second time within a year for matters concerning his estranged ex-girlfriend will learn his fate in June after he admitted attempting to enter her Warwick home and damaging her property.

Prosecutor Loxley Ricketts told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that on April 3 this year, Peter Nentwig, of Ord Road, Warwick went to the home of his ex-girlfriend Tiffany Dawson at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The complainant and a male friend, who were watching a movie, heard a noise at her bedroom window. She discovered Nentwig was outside and asked him to leave but he repeatedly asked her to come outside to talk to him. She refused.

Mr. Ricketts said Nentwig left the property but reappeared a short time later causing Ms Dawson’s dog to bark, alerting her. Upon examining the footage from her CCTV cameras, Ms Dawson discovered that the camera facing her kitchen door had been adjusted. However footage did reveal the man walking around her home and Ms Dawson found the outside handle of her kitchen door bent and twisted.

After hearing glass in her kitchen shatter, the complainant’s friend went outside of the home wielding a baseball bat. Nentwig, who was bleeding at the time, was seen holding a knife with a ten-inch blade but he dropped it and left the home.

Police subsequently found him walking along Harbour Road. He admitted going to Ms Dawson’s home and breaking the door but denied trying to break in. He added that he could not remember whether he brought the knife to the property or if he found it there.

Speaking on behalf of his client, lawyer Saul Dismont told Mr. Warner that at the time of the incident Nentwig and Ms Dawson had rekindled their relationship and he was taken by surprise to find another man in her bedroom; he wanted answers and broke the window out of frustration. Mr. Dismont said his client was sorry for his actions.

However Mr. Warner said it did not excuse the man’s behavior. He ordered a social inquiry report, a victim impact statement and ordered that Nentwig not have any contact with Ms Dawson. He will be sentenced on June 30.
