The Premier, the Hon. Craig Cannonier, JP, MP, is advising the public that in preparation for the 2015 Census, the Department of Statistics will be conducting a Census pre-test from May 21st – October 8th, 2014. However, the e-Census (the online phase of the pre-test) will be conducted from May 21st to June 27th, 2014.

For the very first time, the Department will offer households the option of completing their census questionnaire online. The 1,000 households that have been chosen to participate should have received a letter in the mail advising them of the steps required to register and complete the e-Census questionnaire. Registration ended on May 16th.

The introduction of the e-Census is in response to the public’s overwhelming feedback during the 2010 Census to complete the questionnaire online.  The e-Census is aimed at being convenient, secure and cost effective.

“The public should be aware that the Department is legislated to conduct a Census of Population & Housing in the year 2015. The United Nations Statistics Division recommends that all countries carry out a pre-test prior to a census. As a reminder, it is an individual’s civic responsibility to participate in the Census,” the Premier said.

For more information regarding the upcoming Census pre-test, members of the public can contact the Department of Statistics at 297-7761 or visit www.statistics.gov.bm.
