Hockey: Budgies and Ravens victories set up finals-day clash
Budgies B 4-0 Wildcats B
Budgies’ B cantered to an impressive win over Wildcats B.
They opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Jasmine Patterson before doubling their advantage three minutes later thanks to Keishea Robinson.
Second-half goals from Erica Parsons and Akilah Beckles wrapped up the scoring.
Bluebirds B 1-4 Budgies B
A highly-spirited Bluebirds team showed up with 10 players, knowing that a win would advance them to the finals.
The game was a tight affair with plenty of talent on show from both sides.
Budgies, who fielded a solid side, scored a field goal through Kassia White in the second minute from the top of the circle.
There were times it seemed the whole of the Budgies team were running at Bluebirds — and Keishea Robinson added further first-half goals to ensure her team ended the half 3-0 up.
In the second half, Bluebirds’ stout defensive unit marshalled by Vicki Johnston made things a lot harder for their opponents.
But the pressure eventually told and Budgies’ fourth was blasted in from the top of the ‘D’.
A minute later, a quick pass down the left and a cross to the top of the ‘D’ saw a scramble in the circle and Bluebirds pulled one back.
It was a valiant effort by the Bluebirds but it was Budgies who advanced to the finals.
Longtails B 0-5 Ravens B
Ravens emerged winners from a one-sided semi-final clash.
Jess McClure netted in the third minute before two field goals from Megan Troake.
A penalty corner by Ana Abend and a strike by Mollie O’Donnell added second-half goals.
These results set up the finals day on Sunday, where Budgies will play Ravens in both the Ladies A and Ladies B finals.
