What kind of phone do you own?
Bermuda is another world when it comes to mobile devices.
While BlackBerry use is in steep decline worldwide, it still remains king in the Bermuda market.
While 38 per cent of residents say they own a BlackBerry, according to a Mindmaps Survey conducted for the Regulatory Authority in November last year, it’s market share has hit 0 per cent in the US (Consumer Intelligence Partners survey on mobile operating systems, December 2013).
The Bermudian marketplace has been slow to catch on to the Android platform as just 27 per cent of Bermuda residents own one compared to 46 per cent in the United States.
The iOS system (Apple) has a 29 per cent market share here compared to 48 per cent in the US.
Overall, 93 per cent of residents own a mobile phone. In fact, there are 1.36 mobile phones per every adult resident in Bermuda.
Of the seven per cent who do not own a mobile phone, 52 per cent say it is too expensive.
Just over one in four people who do not have a mobile phone said they plan to get one by May 2014.
A vast majority (80 per cent) of residents use postpaid service. A total of 18 per cent have their mobile service as part of a bundled offer.
Residents are finding it easier to surf the Internet, as 70 per cent have data on their mobile phone.
Those that have data use it for Internet browsing (87 per cent), e-mail (83 per cent), instant messaging (72 per cent) and social networking (67 per cent).
Just over half (55 per cent) who do not have data on their phone say it is not required.
Most people (77 per cent) are happy with the speed of their mobile data service on their mobile phone.
Just 45 per cent of residents use the mobile data service on their tablet or by using a USB modem.
A slight majority of residents who do not have data service for their tablet say they do not require it and most (93 per cent) say they do not intend to get it for their tablet within the next six months.
