Bermuda National Coach Ben Smith was pleased with the results from the Validus National Swimming Championships last weekend.
For many of the younger swimmers, this was their first time competing in a long course meet, but they responded well. Young Sharks swimmers Brian Desmond and Sam Williamson both achieved A level times, which allow them to train with the National training team.
A large crowd was on hand to support Commonwealth Games hopefuls Rebecca Heyliger and Lisa Blackburn, who fell short of their marks but turned in impressive races all the same. Commonwealth bound stars Julian Fletcher and Roy-Allen Burch were also back in Bermuda for the meet and did not disappoint with very good showings leading up to the event.
It was also an excellent showing from Harbour Swim Team, who finished with 49 top three finishes, a strong finish to a great season for the team.
Head Coach Shona Palmer noted in a press release: “The work that has been put in at the foundation level this season is resulting in some outstanding performances from the younger swimmers. With the seniors continuing to improve, the number of young Harbour Club Swimmers returning ever improving times bodes well for the future of Bermuda swimming.”
