Somerset’s improbable five-wicket victory over Southampton was the highlight of the weekend’s Logic Premier Division action.
The young Somerset side came into the game as underdogs following their defeat last week at the hands of Willow Cuts, while Southampton were looking for their third-straight victory and had yet to suffer a loss.
Jordan DeSilva took advantage of Rangers captain Dion Stovell’s decision to remove Kevin Tucker and Derrick Brangman from the attack, despite the two surrendering only 13 runs in the first seven overs and combining for three wickets.
DeSilva blasted 76 runs, including three fours and six sixes, which allowed Somerset to chase down Rangers 168 for eight, having completely stymied the usually dominant Rangers.
Meanwhile, Bailey’s Bay star Rodney Trott led the team to a convincing victory over St. George’s. The game ended at 37 overs each due to inclement weather, but St. George’s were unable to make anything of
their chances and lost by five wickets.
Willow Cuts, also dealing with a rain delay, managed a 48-run victory over Cleveland County.
Despite new Cleveland captain Allan Douglas Jr.’s best efforts, Willow Cuts, led by Ricardo Brangman and his 55 runs in the middle order, prevailed in the shortened 33-over match.
