International fashion designer Anna Laub could be selling her summer wares in Bermuda after meeting several buyers on the island.

Speaking to the Bermuda Sun at the City Fashion Festival’s Designer Showcase at Fort Hamilton on Tuesday evening, the founder of Prism in London said: “Bermuda’s the ideal place for Prism with the beautiful weather and beaches. I’m planning to talk to a few buyers on the island but I’m not sure which ones yet.”

Local models strutted around the grounds at Fort Hamilton wearing Laub’s new high-end summer collection — some of which was being seen exclusively ahead of their launch in London.

There was certainly a retro feel to the swimwear, sunglasses and optical glasses — think cupped bras, tight patterns and low-cut hip lines (as well as more modern high cuts). The models wouldn’t have looked out of place on the set of The Great Gatsby.

In her Milan collection, Laub takes the hipster square-shaped sunglass frames and extends them at the temples to a blunt point, giving a touch of elegance, while the Capri style glasses are much more rounded and feminine. The glasses are made in the historic home of the glasses-making region of Italy, Treviso.

Laub said: “The emphasis is on practicality”. She showed me the beach bags and they are indeed practical, broken up into several different-sized compartments for ease of finding items, while the espadrilles were designed to be comfortable.

If Laub does bring her collection here, many of us will have to save up our pennies — these are luxury items. The glasses sell for around $255 to $265, the espadrilles are around $150 and full-set swimwear is around $150.
