The first day heats at the 20th Caribbean Island Swimming Championships saw Shannon Hassell open Bermuda’s campaign in style.
She recorded a time of 1:09.78 in the 100m backstroke to become top seed. Ashley Irby was next up and swam a strong PB time of 1:15.03, which has her seeded fourth for the finals.
Ethan Daley shaved a second off his personal best to swim 1:11.53 and set him up third for the finals.
Philip Hagen placed 11th in the 100m breaststroke heats, while Lisa Blackburn and Julian Fletcher had their events move directly to finals. Hassell lowered her 50m free best time to 28.64, which qualified her, while Jesse Washington edged into the finals with a 25.66.
For the 11-12 age groups Irby and Daley both made their 50m free finals.
