Good news for bird-lovers who missed out on the Bermuda Audubon Society’s 60th anniversary talk last week — there will be a repeat performance due to popular demand.

The talk at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute by Audubon Society president Andrew Dobson will cover the astounding variety of birds found here in Bermuda.

Dobson, who has been recording and photographing Bermuda’s birds for the past 24 years, said: “Compared with islands to our south, Bermuda lays claim to having one of the largest bird lists in the region. “For an area of only 21 square miles and 20 breeding species, it might seem surprising that about 385 species have been recorded.”

In his illustrated lecture, Dobson will describe the gradual increase in species recorded since 1850.

Explanations will be offered as to what has enabled the increase in species, including the publishing of field guides, availability of optical equipment, increase in citizen science and recent use of social media.

The lecture is on Thursday, February 6 at 7:30pm . Harbourfront opens at 6pm for dinner and the cash bar at 6:30pm (happy hour prices). Ticket holders can get 20 per cent off dinner at Harbourfront before or after the lecture. Call 295-4207 to make a reservation.

Tickets for the lecture are $20 for members and $25 for non-members and are available by calling 294-0204 or from the gift shop at BUEI.
