Digicel unveiled its latest promotion, ‘Kiss Your Internet Bill Goodbye, on Thursday morning. The offer may not be for everyone, people who don’t like contracts or people who would actually pay more than they currently do by the offer.

As an example, someone who only has a $50 a month phone plan and a $60 a month Internet plan for Digicel for 8Mb, would still pay the same amount for the first year of the contract ($100 for the phone and $10 for home Internet) but would then pay $160 for the second year when the Home Internet reverted back to its normal price.

Below are some frequently asked questions with regard to the promotion.

Q. How does the ‘Digicel free Internet’ promotion work?

A. Any new customer who signs up for a Digicel postpaid voice and/or data plan valued at $100 or more per month may choose to receive 12 months of free Digicel Internet (6 Mb) for their home. The customer must sign a two-year voice and/or data agreement as well as a two-year Internet agreement. A termination fee of $250 will apply to any customer terminating the Internet contract prior to its 24 month duration.

The Promotion ends on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

Q. If I am an existing Digicel Postpaid customer do I qualify for this promotion?

A. If you are a Digicel postpaid customer currently out of contract, you may choose to receive 12 months free Digicel Internet (6 Mb) for your home by ensuring that your mobile plan is valued at $100 or more per month, extending your mobile agreement by 2 years, and signing a 2 year Digicel Internet agreement.

If you have six months or less remaining on your current agreement, you may choose to receive 12 months free Digicel Internet (6 Mb) for your home by ensuring that your mobile plan is valued at $100 or more per month, extending your mobile agreement by two years, and signing a two-year Digicel Internet agreement.

If you have more than six months remaining on your agreement, you may choose to open a new Digicel postpaid account to qualify for this promotion.

Customers who deactivate their existing accounts during the promotion period will not be eligible for this promotion.

Q. Suppose I open a new Digicel postpaid account to get 12 months free Digicel Internet, but also need a new device?

A. Should you choose to open a new Digicel postpaid account to avail of the free Digicel Internet (6 Mb) offer and need a new handset, you will be required to pay the Device Only price.

Q: Will I have to change my number upon activating a Digicel Postpaid account?

A: Digicel Postpaid accounts require Digicel postpaid SIM/micro SIM/nano SIM cards.

If you are an existing customer with an active Digicel Postpaid account, and have six months or less remaining on your contract, you will not be required to change your number — you will simply extend your existing contract by two years.

If you are an existing customer with an active Digicel Prepaid account you will receive a new Digicel Postpaid SIM card and get a new Digicel postpaid number.

If you are a new Digicel postpaid customer, you will receive a Digicel postpaid SIM card and get a Digicel postpaid number of your choice.

Q. If I am already a Digicel Internet customer, do I qualify for this promotion?

A. If you are a Digicel Internet customer, with six months or less remaining on your agreement, you may choose to receive 12 months free Digicel Internet (6 Mb) by signing a two-year voice and/or data agreement for mobile services valued at $100 or more per month, and extending your Digicel Internet agreement by two years.

Q. If I choose to switch to Digicel and thus avail of the free Digicel Internet offer, can I keep my existing e-mail address?

A. If you have a web based e-mail address such as Gmail or Hotmail, you will be able to keep that email address indefinitely when switching to Digicel Internet.

If you have an e-mail address provided by a local Internet Service Provider other than Digicel, you may choose to keep that e-mail address by paying a small monthly fee to your current provider.

Q. Can I choose a higher Internet speed?

A. Yes, should you choose to open a new Digicel postpaid account to receive 12 months free Digicel Internet (6 Mb) but prefer a higher speed, you can instead receive a $50 discount per month for 12 months towards any Internet plan higher than 6 Mb.

Q. Can I choose a lower Internet speed?

A. This promotion is valid for Internet speeds of 6 Mb or higher.

Q. How much will I save with this promotion?

A. The free Internet promotion will save customers $600 over the course of one year.

6 Mb plan regular: $50.00 x 12 = $600.00

Q. When will my 12 months free Digicel Internet start?

A. Your 12 months free Digicel Internet will go into effect immediately upon signing up for this promotion.

If you are an existing Digicel Internet customer who signs up for this offer mid-month, you will receive a pro-rated credit on your next bill.

If you are a new Digicel Internet customer, you will receive your first bill charge on the 13th month of your agreement.

For example, if you sign up for this offer on February 7, 2014, you will receive your first charged bill on March 1, 2015, which will include a pro-rate for February 7 – 28, 2015.

Q. What will happen after the free 12 months are over?

A.  After 12 months, the free promotional period will end and you will be charged at the standard monthly rate of $50 for the 6 Mb plan for the duration of your two-year Digicel Internet agreement.   Should you choose a higher speed, you will be charged per the standard rates below once the promotional period ends.

Q. What happens if I decide to terminate my Digicel postpaid commitment prior to the contracted end date?

A. A termination fee of $500 will apply.

You will no longer receive free Digicel Internet and will be billed at the standard rate of your plan.

Q. What happens if I decide to terminate my Digicel Internet commitment prior to the contracted end date?

A. A termination fee of $250 will apply to any customer desiring to terminate the Digicel Internet agreement prior to completion of its two-year duration.

Q. Will I need to use a specific broadband access provider to use a Digicel Internet?

A. You may use either broadband access provider with a Digicel Internet plan. Should you upgrade to a higher Internet speed, please ensure that you upgrade with your broadband access provider to ensure that you get the true speed.

For example, if you are currently using a 4 Mb plan and upgrade to the 6 Mb plan, you will need to upgrade to a 6 Mb plan with your broadband access provider as well.

Q. If I am already a CableVision customer, is there anything else I will need to do in order to use a 15 Mb or 25 Mb plan?

A. When you upgrade your service to 15Mb or 25 Mb, you may require an upgraded modem and home router to access higher speeds.
