Eastern Uni prove a little too slick for Bermuda Select
Eastern University 7-4 Bermuda Select
This fast-paced hockey game clicked into gear straight from the whistle as the college side of Eastern University’s Danielle Frasca scored the first field goal in the ninth minute, assisted by Hayley Williams, to make it 1-0.
Eastern University scored their second field goal in the 20th minute by Abby Wagner; assisted by Jessica Kinzler.
A penalty stroke was awarded to the Bermuda Select team in the 24th minute as a result of a defenders’ foot blocking a certain goal.
This was beautifully converted into the top right of the goal by Juliette Ferrari-McComb to make it 2-1. Two minutes later Eastern University’s Jessica Kinzler slammed a field goal shot home as a result of a deflection off Bermuda ‘keeper’ Tami Ray’s pads as the score was moved on to 3-1.
In the 29th minute a cross by Bermuda’s Francesca Cacace outside the 25 metre line found Georgia Harris slightly outside the circle, who carried the ball in for a shot to the left of the Eastern University ‘keeper’ and the first half ended 3-2 to Eastern University.
Eastern University continued their attack and it was Frasca again, this time from a penalty corner.
With assistance from Abby Wagner, Frasca executed well in the 39th minute to make it 4-2.
Eastern University had great set plays and tremendous skill, which at times caught the Bermuda Select unsure where their next move was to be.
Despite that effort, the Bermuda Select team continued applying pressure and it paid off when a persistent Claudine Pullen pulled a ball back that was heading out of bounds from the base line to find Harris on the penalty spot for her second field goal shot in the 45th minute that was well executed to the left of the Eastern University’s ‘keeper’ and now the score was 4-3.
One minute later Eastern University’s Jessica Jaindl scored a field goal assisted by Sarah Webb.
Eastern University’s Frasca would complete her hat-trick in the 58th minute from a field goal, with an assist from Hannah Bartholomew, and the score has advanced to 6-3.
Two minutes later it would be Bermuda’s Harris who slipped the ball from the base line to find Maya Palacio near the penalty spot. With a controlled reverse flat stick she lifted to the right of the Eastern University’s ‘keeper’ made it now 6-4.
One minute before full time in the 69th minute and Kinzler was left on her own in the circle. She struck the ball home and the game ended 7-4 to Eastern University. Bermuda’s keeper Ray had an outstanding game saving numerous shots fired at her in the second half.
