The Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Public Works can advise the public of the following Christmas tree collection dates for 2014:
• East End - Wednesday January 22nd
• West End - Wednesday January 29th
Trees should be taken to your normal residential waste set out location.
A Ministry spokesperson said: “Like all other horticultural waste, Christmas trees are shredded prior to composting. We’d like to remind the public to remove all tinsel, lights, ornaments and tree bags. This keeps our staff safe from flying metal objects, protects valuable shredding equipment and allows us to produce higher quality finished compost”.
The Marsh Folly composting facility accepts horticultural materials from households and commercial entities, composting 10,000 tonnes of material annually. Finished compost surpasses the environmental standards set for EPA grade “A” compost and is available for free to residents and businesses. Please call the Marsh Folly Composting facility at 292-1517 or 292-7454 for further details.
