Top 50 Twitter accounts in Bermuda - December 2013

John Layfield is still the champ.

Former WWE world champion and current Fox News commentator John Layfield remains on top of the Bermuda twitter rankings for December.

The all-around good guy, who helps with the Beyond Rugby programme and is raising money for local charities with his Seven Summits challenge, had 431,523 followers as of December 31. 

Layfield has more followers than the rest of the Top 100 has combined — and by a good margin too. The longest reigning champ in WWE history gained nearly 13,000 followers last month.

While singer Collie Buddz and Dudley Freedom remain at the second and third spots on our list, another singer, Fiyah Marshall, makes his first appearance with 30,192 followers.

That bumped the rest of the top 10 down a spot.

Also making her first appearance on the list is Forbes’ journalist Clare O’Connor, who comes in at number 11. Ms O’Connor has 8,128 following her tweets.

Bernews fell out of the top 10 to number 12.

New entries include triathlete Nikki Butterfield (#22 – just two spots behind her husband Tyler), Dj Rusty G (#33), Bermuda News (#36), Amber @hailmolly (#42), and DJ Chubb (#44).

Dropping out of the Top 50 were: Olympian Tyrone Smith, Hott 107.5, Beachfest, Fully, One Bermuda Alliance, Bobbi S aka the Sportschickca, and Laurel Burns. 

Sportschickca did have a gain of 141 followers for the month, which was one of the 10 best for Bermuda. 

Most of the big gainers were at the top of the charts with already mentioned Mr Layfield leading the way. Buddz increased his followers by more than 500 while Dudley Freedom had more than a 1,600 follower increase. 

It only took 885 followers to make the rankings in November whereas now it is 1,040. 

The music genre contributed the most names this time around with 17 accounts either belonging to musicians, radio stations or DJs. There are 10 businesses in the rankings, eight news accounts and six athletes.

But no politicians or political parties. Those top accounts include the OBA (#56), Corporation of Hamilton (#65) and the Bermuda London Office (#77). Michael Dunkley could be the politician with the most followers — he has 286.
