Carnival Cruise Lines has partnered with Dr Seuss Enterprises to bring the characters from the books to sea.

Each of Carnival’s 24 ships will have characters from the books as well as other entertainment options.

One of the highlights will be The Green Eggs and Ham breakfast with the Cat in the Hat and friends.

As well as the Cat, Thing One, Thing Two and Sam will help entertain the kids at the dining tables. The special breakfast will be $5 per guest.

Dr Seuss movies and cartoons will be shown such as The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

There will also be a Seuss-a-palooza Character Parade.

Carnival joins Disney, Norwegian Cruise Line (which has a deal with Nickelodeon) and Royal Caribbean (which has a deal with Dreamworks) to add beloved characters from TV shows and movies to the ships.

Lounge access denied

One of the casualties of the American Airlines and US Airways merger is that American Express Platinum and Centurion card holders that access to American’s lounges will not be among the perks that go with the cards. Cardholders will also lose access to US Airways lounges.

Double miles

If you’re a person who has to travel to Los Angeles, American is offering double miles (up to 15,000) for those who fly between January 7 and March 31. You’ll get 5,000 bonus miles for flying in a discounted coach, 10,000 bonus miles for full-far coach; and 15,000 for first class or business class. All bonus miles are applied to roundtrip tickets.

Just say ‘no’ to phone calls

Both Delta Air Lines and JetBlue have said regardless of what the Federal Communication Commission rules on whether airlines can allow passengers to use phones to make calls in flight, they will prohibit it.

The main reason is both airlines say it will be an inconvenience to other passengers to having people talking on their phones in-flight.

Vegas deals

If you happen to like Las Vegas, you should check out www.vegas.com before you book your hotel to see if you can get a better deal. Some of the specials it is running this week include Paris Las Vegas (as low as $60 a night), The Signature at MGM Grand (as low as $96 a night), or the Mirage (as low as $72 a night).

If you’re on a budget, you can always try the El Cortez at $28 per night. It’s off strip near the Four Queen’s. There’s no glamour or glitz here and you won’t save any money if you’re taking taxis to go to the middle of the strip. But if you are trying save your money to lose it at the tables, this could work for you.

Theatre tickets

Likewise, if you’re trying to score discount Broadway tickets, go to www.theatermania.com. You can save more than $50 a ticket for some shows like Chicago. Many discounts are at least 35 per cent off. The website also has news about shows. n
