Harbour Amateur Swimming Club enjoyed more than 130 personal best performances at the Best of the Best Series 2 at the weekend.

Stephen Castree, from the club, said in a press release: “With the qualification process complete for the upcoming Carifta Games at the previous meet, swimmers entered this Best of the Best Series 2 with differing goals in mind.

Those who have qualified for Carifta are back in heavy training prior to the upcoming meet and so this event was always going to be a meet when the athletes would swim tired in preparation to go fast later in the season.

“For other senior and junior swimmers alike, this meet offered a further opportunity to compete in Bermuda to gain much needed experience and to further improve their times as they work towards personal objectives set at the start of the season.

“With the weather cooperating perfectly, the Harbour swimmers continued their season with over 130 personal best swims across the main meet and the development meet. As the season comes into full swing and Carifta, Bermuda National Championships and overseas National Championships all approach in the summer months, the team is developing well to have major success in these meets.

“Notable performances include Emma Harvey who dipped under 1'10 for the 100m butterfly, Peter Kernan who has continued to impress with rapid improvements all year and Brittan Moseley who continues to improve across a wide spectrum of events.

“In the ultra-competitive boys 11-12 Age Group, best times by Jude Moseley, Nick Brando, Brett Smith and Alex Pilgrim were set as the group continue to push each other to ever-improving times, which will make for an exciting age group in coming years for Harbour and for Bermuda as Keagan Woolley from Sharks is also making rapid improvements in the age group.

“Harbour looks forward to the next meet and the major meets of the season confident of a good winter’s work which will result in an outstanding summer of swimming in Bermuda.”

Ben Smith, national coach and Sharks head coach said: “The second meet in the Best of best shipping series saw more swimmers lowering times to reach personal bests. From a Sharks perspective we were pleased with the 50 personal best times that were achieved and continue to see the progress of many of our young swimmers.

“This meet was also a great opportunity to see many of the Carifta qualifiers compete to gauge the progress that needs to be made from now until April 19.”
