The Bermuda National Gallery launches its historical book next week at a special reception.
The hardcover — Bermuda National Gallery: An Introduction —has been written by gallery director Lisa Howie and Curator Sophie Cressall, with opening remarks by Ruth Thomas.
It includes highlights from the gallery’s collection — historical and contemporary — and promises to surprise readers with its variety of art forms, artists, time periods and representative cultures.
Howie says: “This book is a glimpse into the holdings of the BNG with some narrative about the museum’s history with spotlights on several artists. The collection has evolved significantly in the last few years, always with a commitment to cultural relevancy, artistic merit and the artwork’s position within the canon of art history as the driving considerations for acceptance.”
The book launch is at the gallery on Thursday, February 27, from 5:30pm.
