Sports shorts: Blues next for Wells

Nahki Wells’ Huddersfield Town get the chance to put the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest behind them when they travel to Birmingham in the Championship tomorrow.

The game, which kicks off at 11am Bermuda time at St Andrews, sees Blues boss Lee Clark take on his former club, with his first management job coming at the Terriers.

Wells, along with his team-mates, suffered a poor second half against high-flying Forest and will look to add to his two-goal tally for his new club. Town, though, have lost five of their past six games.

Wells’ strike partner James Vaughan is expected to miss the game with a calf injury.

Birmingham are likely to have their attack lead by Italian Federico Macheda, who is on loan from Manchester United. The Blues themselves are in poor form, having won just once in the league in 2014.

Carifta joy for Smith

Bermuda’s Chas Smith is the latest athlete to qualify for the Carifta Games.

Smith, who studies at Dalhousie University in Canada, qualified in the Under-20 men’s triple jump after a leap of 14.48m, with the standard set at 14.30m.

Smith’s coach Kevin Bourgeois said: “Chas is a dedicated athlete and hard worker, and of course a great team-mate to all.

“I affectionately call my jumps group at Dalhousie the ‘Flight Crew’ and they take great pride in being one of the top jumps groups in the Canadian university track world.

“Currently Chas’ teammate Jordan is ranked #1 in the triple jump in CIS with a 15.21m jump, and Chas is ranked #3 with a 14.48.”

Ready for Saracens?

Organizers are working hard to confirm the line-up of stars for the second visit of Aviva Premiership rugby team Saracens to the island.

Sarries will take on a Bermuda Rugby side, managed again by former England captain Lewis Moody, as part of a week-long tour that runs from June 2-8.

The trip will also feature School visits, a ‘Coach the Coach’ clinic, a golf day, a 7s touch tournament, Beyond Rugby coaching clinics, black-tie dinner and auction, sponsor drinks reception and a farewell luncheon.
