Watch it: Splurging by rich kids is not good TV

Watch it: Splurging by rich kids is not good TV

This past weekend, I spent some time watching reality TV. One show that caught my eye, but not in a good way, was Rich Kids of Beverley Hills.

The show follows five 20-somethings who live in Beverley Hills. Most of them are rich because of their parents, and have not worked a day in their lives.

These rich kids rely on their parents’ money to fund their lifestyles, which are comprised of shopping trips, partying and of course flying via private jet for vacations.

The show is a spin-off from the Tumblr Blog Rich Kids of Instagram.

It follows the lives of Morgan Stewart, Dorothy Wang, Roxy Sowlaty, Brendan Fitzpatrick and Jonny Drubel.

The first three episodes show the crew spending thousands of dollars shopping on Rodeo Drive and, of course, partying.

In one episode, Roxy spends half a million dollars, claiming her parents gave her six unlimited credit cards. The next episode, her parents threaten to cut her off financially.

The rich kids aren’t making any fans because viewers can’t relate to them.

The only ones who seem to work are Brendan, a real estate broker, and Jonny, a singer/songwriter. Dorothy, Morgan and Roxy seemingly live off their parents’ money and aren’t apologetic about it at all.

The New York Post asks if the rich kids are “more obnoxious than the Kardashians”?

I think they might be and here’s why. The Kardashians grew up with money, yes, but they all worked. Now before you yell at me for defending them, which I’m not, continue reading.Yes, their brand might be built on Kim’s sex tape, but no one can deny that Kris Jenner worked her butt off to make her family what it is today. Maybe she made a deal with the devil, but that is one hard-working family.

But back to the rich kids. I don’t think I would watch this again. Spoiled brats flaunting their money in my face isn’t very good television.

Maybe if they worked hard for their money, I wouldn’t be bothered.

And the sad part is that they are only two or three years younger than me. I can’t imagine calling Daddy because I needed to go shopping. n
