World on Wireless is getting set to grow.

Rumours have been flying around on blogs and social media that the company may be going out of business.

But the company was quick to squash that on Friday.

A spokesperson said: “Due to articles written on the migration of World on Wireless (WOW) from the 700Mhz to 500Mhz spectrum, there appears to be speculation on the blogs that WOW may be going out of business. Nothing could be further from the truth.

“Local telecommunication companies do not own the spectrum used to deliver their services, it is assigned by the Department of Telecommunications. The spectrum remains the property of the Government of Bermuda. Because the 700Mhz spectrum used in other countries is assigned for cellular services and because the cellular companies locally wish to make use of this spectrum, the Regulatory Authority is recalling it for reallocation for mobile use.

“In order for this to take place, it is necessary to relocate WOW to the 500Mhz spectrum. The $800K is the cost for WOW to replace some vital equipment, specifically, transmitters to support the 500Mhz assignment. This simply ensures WOW is not out of pocket to accommodate the mobile companies. WOW wishes to be clear that this migration will have negligible impact to our customers and the Company plans to keep its customers informed of the progress of this project.”

President and CEO, Stanley G. Wright added: "This past year, WOW has expanded its programming to include the introduction of High Definition channels at no additional cost and brought its customers the convenience of an online TV Guide. In addition to maintaining our extraordinary customer care, we are launching new bundle services this month. We have no plans of stopping now.”
