For the fifth year, The Argus Group and The Centre on Philanthropy are teaming up for a 5K charity walk. This annual event is a unique fundraiser in that participants choose the charity or non-profit that they want to benefit from their entry fee.
The Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy event takes place on Sunday, February 23, with a warm-up session at 8:15am and the start at 8:30am. It is a fully marshalled 5K walk that begins and finishes on Wesley Street in front of the Argus and The Centre on Philanthropy offices, 14 and 16 Wesley Street, Hamilton respectively.
Elaine Williams, Executive Director of The Centre on Philanthropy, says: “Participants in Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy select a Bermuda registered charity of their choice to receive a donation from their entry fee. As a result, many charities benefit from this event. We are excited to partner with the Argus Group on this initiative and we are grateful for the opportunity to support the numerous charities on the island.”
Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer of the Argus Group, adds: “We are excited to once again be partnering with The Centre on Philanthropy to support this special fundraising event. As a local company, Argus takes its responsibilities to strengthen and add value to the community in which it operates very seriously. Last year we saw 1,235 walkers support 118 charities. This unique event provides an opportunity to raise awareness. We encourage everyone to sign up and walk with their friends and family.”
Online registration is available at www.racedayworld.com or walkers can register in person at The Centre on Philanthropy. The registration deadline is 4pm on Friday, February 21 and the first 1,200 participants will receive a free Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy t-shirt. T-shirts can be picked up from the Argus Building between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, February 22.
The entry fee is $25, with $20 from each entry donated to the charity selected by the participant and $5 going to support www.VOLUNTEER.bm, The Centre on Philanthropy’s online resource for connecting charities with volunteers.
After the walk, prizes will be awarded to the largest corporate, youth and non-profit teams, as well as the team with the best coordinated outfits, the best choreography and the best cheer – so teams are encouraged to dress to impress and make plenty of noise. Forming a team also allows groups to increase their impact if they all walk for the same charity.
As part of its mission to provide resources for Bermuda’s Third Sector, The Centre on Philanthropy hosts a link to a registered list of chairities on its website: www.centreonphilanthropy.org/nonprofitdirectory. Walkers can use this directory to find and research the charity for which they would like to walk.
