Who’s that girl? Introducing The Sports Chick

The next time you are at The Outback and you try to impress that ‘Chick’ with your knowledge of sports, make sure you have your facts straight.

Otherwise, you might be dragging your tail between your legs, having left your man card at her table.

Bobbi Singh, aka The Sports Chick, can hold up her end of the conversation whether you’re talking about hockey, American football or the Premier League. 

When you have three brothers who love sports, like Bobbi, it’s easy to have some of that rub off on you. 

She told the Bermuda Sun: “The only way I could watch TV growing up is if I watched sports because they would hog the TV. But after I got into it I thought it was phenomenal and it was the best thing ever.”

The Canadian transplant has been on the island 10 months after her husband took an IT job here for a local company. She has quickly become known in social media circles for her tweets.

One of her classics was, “There’s so many crazy Canucks on the Kings roster that they should be called the L. Eh Kings!”

Growing up in Canada, it’s natural that her first love is hockey.

“I grew up watching the (Toronto Maple) Leafs but then I got into CFL (Canadian Football League). Those were the years the Argos were doing so well.”

That easily translated to following the NFL, in particular the Phil Simms’ Giants.

“Ever since then I would religiously watch sports. If I couldn’t watch hockey, I’d listen to it on the radio. I watched a lot of Hockey Night in Canada and then I became addicted to (sports channel) TSN.

“I was never really into soap operas or reality shows. Sports is my soap opera — there’s so much drama that goes on.”

That soon blossomed into a love of almost all sports. Her top five would be hockey, NFL, CFL, baseball and the Olympics — but she’s still trying to wrap her ahead around cricket.

“I have a West Indian background so you would think I would be totally into cricket, but growing up in Canada, there was no cricket.

“I do see a lot of the appeal, internationally, and I am slowly trying to get into it. I enjoyed Cup Match, but I’m trying to get more into it.”

The social media phenom has now decided to relaunch her own sports website, which will be finalized in the near future.

“Writing about sports is my way of living it — the good, the bad, the ugly — it doesn’t matter. I love to get feedback about it. I don’t claim to know everything about sports, I write about what I know.

“I’m totally in for an intelligent argument about sports, because I love doing that. I’m extremely passionate about it. You can always talk about politics and sports anywhere.”
