The Bermuda Insurance Institute announced winners of the 2013 Insurance Industry Awards.

Robin Spencer-Arscott will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Julia Henderson will receive the Young Industry Leader of the Year Award.

Catlin Insurance Company won the Corporate Social Responsibility Award.

The Insurance Industry Awards recognize outstanding individuals and companies whose leadership skills, contributions to the industry, and/or Bermuda community set them apart from their peers.

The recipients will be honoured on May 15, 2014 at an awards ceremony at the Fairmont, Hamilton Princess.

Mr Spencer-Arscott, has provided 50 years of dedicated service to the (re)insurance industry in Bermuda.

He has played an important role in promoting Bermuda overseas, particularly in the London and US markets. For many years Mr Spencer-Arscott, together with his Whitfield Group partner, Suzie Pewter, continues to organize the Bermuda annual receptions in Monte Carlo. Again, with Ms Pewter, he also chaired the organizing committee of the World Insurance Forum, which has been held on alternate years since 1993. He also was Chairman of the Bermuda RIMS committee for many years.

As a result of his service, Mr Spencer-Arscott has been called a true ambassador for Bermuda.

He is currently Deputy Chairman and Director of AAA Risk Solutions Limited, an energy broking company which is now in its eleventh year of operation.

Ms Henderson will receive the Young Industry Leader of the Year Award, which recognizes an individual under the age of 35 who over the previous year has made a significant contribution to his/her organization, promoted professionalism, ethics and the development of talent and technical expertise.   Award winners are also focused on achievement in both their career and the wider community in Bermuda.

Julia started her career in operations at RenaissanceRe then moved to Partner Re as an underwriter, and was later promoted to vice President and senior underwriter.

Last year, she was sought out by Brit Insurance and currently holds the role of senior vice president, building their Property Treaty portfolio in their new Bermuda office.

Corporate Social Responsibility winner Catlin takes its community obligations very seriously and is active in a large number of areas.

Catlin is the title sponsor of the island’s largest fundraising event: the Catlin End to End.  The Catlin Group has for several years supported important climate-related initiatives, starting with the Catlin Arctic Survey, followed by the Catlin Seaview Survey.

In 2013, Catlin donated $1m to the Bermuda Hospital Charitable Trust, and in addition, provided grants to many  local charities to support initiatives related to youth, education, the environment and health. n
