Due to opening ceremonies the rest period between heats and finals was very short. We had five individual finals and two relays to swim and all of our swimmers were ready to swim fast.
Emma Harvey was up first and she started the night with a bang. She lowered her 50 back Carifta record from the morning to 31.93 on her way to taking our first medal in gold medal fashion. From breakout to finish it was all Emma putting her stamp on the race. It was great to hear the anthem play while Emma smiled from ear to ear.
Next up Emma had the 100 fly where she had set the Bermuda age group record in the morning to get the second seed. She lowered her record by two seconds on her way to getting a silver medal. Ethan was up next where he put in a strong final swim in placing seventh.
Jesse Washington was in the mood to make his mark in the 100 fly and did he ever. His best time before the final was 1:00 from the morning but his gold medal winning time was 58.77. The team was buzzing after the medal performances and then it was relay time. The girls 11-12 relay of Emma Harvey, Isabelle Dutranoit, Alyssa Paynter and Ashley Irby stunned the field when they grabbed the silver medal to top our medal haul for the day. The boys team finished seventh in their relay to close out the session for Bermuda. We are looking forward to continuing the results on day two.
