September 25: At the Helm
Simmons on the podium
Eugene ‘Penny’ Simmons recorded an excellent third-place finish at the 2013 IOD World Championship at Fishers Island Island Yacht Club.
Simmons wons two of the 10 races and bagged two second spots on his way to 37 points and a place on the podium.
Bermuda was also represented by Patrick Cooper whose high point came in race three, which he won. He also managed a third as he scored 44 points to earn him a sixth-place spot.
Boyce in J24 bid
Bermuda sailor Trevor Boyce helped the No Skirt Required crew to 32nd place in the recently-concluded 2013 J24 North American World Championship.
Skippered by Gary Taylor, the team managed finishes of 16th and 18th out of a field of 46 at Newport, Rhode Island.
The regatta was won by USA skipper John Hollicone on board Helly Hansen.
Sailing short
The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club is holding its Anniversary Weekend from Friday.
Proceedings get under way at 6pm with the second annual Commodore’s Challenge, which sees Commodore Allan Williams and Rear Commodore Neil Redburn go head to head around White's Island.
Saturday features an End of Summer Bash at Flip Flops before Sunday gets going with a Fishing Tournament from 8am and an Annual Anniversary PHRF Regatta.
This will be followed by a Buffet BBQ from 5:30pm.
