Oh, America. You disgust me sometimes. Seriously. I should explain why.

Last week, Miss New York Nina Davuluri won the Miss America pageant.

Davuluri is an Indian-American girl from Syracuse. Seems American enough to me.

Sadly, some Americans were outraged that the first woman of Indian descent could win the Miss America Pageant. The racial tweets poured in:

  • @Granvil_Colt: And the Arab wins Miss America. Classic.
  • @JAyres15: swear I’m not racist but this is America.
  • @LukeBrasili: 9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss America?
  • @SHANN___Wow: Miss America right now or miss Al Qaeda?

I truly don’t get it. Do these people not understand the difference between Southeast Asia and the Middle East?

Surely they know that Afghanistan and India are not the same, right? And of course they know that Indian does not equal Arab and Arab does not equal terrorist? Right?

This woman is just as much as an American as anyone else who is born in America.

She might not be blonde and blue-eyed, but so what. The face of America has changed. Racist Americans need to realize that and get over it.

Reacting to the controversy in a Washington Post article,  Davuluri said: “I’ve grown up with so many stereotypes about my culture, I just knew that it was something I needed to advocate for. A lot of the remarks weren’t meant to be malicious, but just due to the fact of ignorance.”

Queen Bey performed in Brazil and was nearly lost in a sea of her fans. Beyonce, pictured, was performing during the second leg of the Mrs Carter World Tour in Sao Paulo.

According to the NY Daily News, the 32-year-old was singing ‘Irreplaceable’ when an over-zealous fan rushed up, put his arms around her and tried to yank her off the stage. The oh-so-professional Beyonce broke free from the fan and never stopped singing. Her security rushed to the stage and surrounded the man. But Queen Bey said “It’s okay” and let him enjoy the rest of the show. She went as far as to ask his name and said “I love you” to him.

Wow. Her restraint was remarkable. I would’ve had him escorted out of the building and banned from every future show.

But then again, I’m not Queen Bey.
