The Bermuda Water Safety Council is pleased to announce its first ever Boat Safety Seminar and Cruise open to all Bermuda boaters and operators.

The event will take place at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club on Sunday October 20th, beginning at 5:30pm. On hand will be the Chairman of the Bermuda Water Safety Council, Ralph Richardson, Denis Rowe of the Bermuda Maritime Operations Center, and Sergeant Paul Watson of the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit who will be presenting safety seminars to the public. The talks will detail important points on operating a boat safely, as well as giving an overview of the services provided by Bermuda Radio that includes VHF radios- Why the need for VHF Radio vs. Cell phone; Licensing & allocation of Radio Call signs; EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons); VHF DSC (Digital Selective Calling); AIS (Automatic Identification System); and much more. Upon completion of the seminars a two-hour cruise aboard the MV Elizabeth will take place. The cruise will provide valuable information and demonstration on the safe use of flares and rockets as well as how to safely navigate Bermuda’s channels at night. The boat will depart from Albuoy’s Point at 7:00pm.

Boaters are requested to bring outdated flares to Tynes Bay Waste Facility & Public Drop-Off to help with the flare collection designed for this event. The deadline to submit flares is Monday October 14, 2013.

Pre-registration for the event is recommended by emailing Nathan Trott: [email protected]

A $5 donation to offset expenses would be appreciated.
