'The Cathedral of African Methodism in Bermuda’ will this coming week mark 128 years as an AME Church in Bermuda. Historic St. Paul will kick-off a week of activities on Monday, 23rd September at 12:30pm with an open “lunch & learn” workshop conducted by Executive Assistant Rev. Judith Gardner. She will focus on the topic of practical witnessing with an emphasis on the communal responsibility of Christians to help those less fortunate and in need of being built up.

On Wednesday, 25th September, the sanctuary will resound with the sound of music as the organ, piano and other instruments provide a lunchtime recital in celebration of the Church’s rich musical heritage. From 12:30pm to 1:30pm all are welcome to drop in for some musical relief during the workday. Featured artists will include Mr. Cecil G. Smith MMus, St. Paul’s organist and Mr. Raymond George, piano.

“Achieving social justice in Bermuda’s business-centric economy” will be theme of a public forum in Centennial Hall on Thursday, 26th September starting at 7:30pm. Join a distinguished panel for a discussion on real economic issues affecting real people. Panelists are:

  • Rev. Nicholas G. Tweed, Pastor, St. Paul
  • Ms. Dianna Taylor, Director, Department of Financial Assistance (Government of Bermuda)
  • Mr. Glen Smith JP MP (OBA) Member of Parliament, Constituency #14, Devonshire North West and Executive Director, Auto Solutions
  • Mr. E. David G. Burt JP MP (PLP) Member of Parliament for Constituency #18, Pembroke West Central and Shadow Minister of Finance

A Friday night of family fun! will be the theme for the evening of 27th September as the Centennial Hall is transformed into a hive of fun activities and games for all ages. All are welcome as we enjoy fellowship, food and fun in a family atmosphere.

The Anniversary week of activities culminates in a “Family & Friends” worship experience on Sunday, 29th September starting at 10:55am. In the spirit of community St. Paul will salute the Lindo’s Family for their generous donation to the Bermuda Hospitals Board Charitable Trust. St Paul’s “golden couples” will also be recognized. Six (6) couples celebrate over 50 years of marriage and their commitment to family and their Church will be highlighted in the worship experience.

Pastor of St. Paul, Rev. Nicholas Tweed said: “Every event hosted during this week is an opportunity to engage with the community and to tell the Island of Bermuda that St. Paul is a community church where we welcome everyone and where we care for the whole person.”

Note: the “golden couples” are:

  • Mr. & Mrs. Ambrose (Mary) Scott
  • Mr. & Mrs. G. Leon ( Helen) Burt
  • Mr. & Mrs. Stanley (Ilyss) Morton
  • Mr. & Mrs. Quinton (Joan) Ming Sr.
  • Mr. & Mrs. Eugene (Joy) Creighton
  • Mr. & Mrs. Earl (Leonie) Stevens
