Donal Smith has been away at a business conference in Colombia amid the furore over his TV interview.
Mr Smith not only spoke about gays but also suggested international business has had some negative social implications for Bermuda.
Municipalities Minister Michael Fahy told the Bermuda Sun yesterday: “It is ironic that the Deputy Major would apparently have this anti-international business stance at the same time he is abroad trying to attract business to Bermuda.
“One of the burdens of public office is you have to be more careful how you speak. I am not against freedom of speech, but people look to you as to what you say.
“The Mayor has to consider all his options and he has said that he will keep me in the loop.”
