“Eat the colours of the rainbow” was culinary nutritionist Ashley Tucker’s message at her recent food preparation demo.
“And I don’t mean Skittles!” she barked at the modest gathering of onlookers at a Bermuda Gas/KitchenAid promotional event on Saturday.
Her message was that different coloured fruit and vegetables contain different micro nutrients that are essential to a healthy diet so it seemed apt that she chose a Five Colour salsa to prepare.
This reporter can attest that the salsa is a ‘keeper’ and one I will prepare at summer barbeques forever more — full of fresh, citrussy flavours and complementary textures.
She also prepared a couple of smoothies including the delicious Blast of Blue Blend with avocado, spinach, lemon, vanilla hemp milk (great for omega three apparently), agave syrup (a sweetner with health benefits), ice cubes, chia seeds and blueberries. Dunkleys also had a stall at the event promoting new drinks they have made available including Coconut Sobe Life Water and Eco AquaFina using 50 per cent less
plastic in its bottles.
Tucker’s talk was simple but informative and made me want to go out and learn more. She is currently launching her own business and offers a variety of services including food demos, food journal analysis, personal chefing, product development advise, menu development and design, and teaching about eating balanced meals.
