Google turned 15 last week. It’s become the most widely used search engine in the world and helped put some out of business — goodbye AltaVista. Here are 15 facts you probably didn’t know about Google.
1. It was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
2. Excite turned down an offer to buy it for $700,000.
3. Google, originating from a misspelling of the word “googol.
4. The first Google drawing had the burning man symbol in it.
5. A new Google employee is known as a “Noogler”.
6. Google lets its employees bring their dogs to work.
7. Klingon and Elmer Fudd are two search language selection choices.
8. It uses goats to trim its lawns.
9. One of the company’s principles is ‘you can make money without doing evil’
10. The original name was ‘backRub’.
11. Google has been voted the Best company to work for three times.
12. Its first server was in a garage.
13. In May 2011, it was the first website to top a billion unique users.
14. It has 44,777 employee.
15. It made a profit of 10.74b in 2012.
