Circuit Training classes and Boot Camps are fast becoming popular ways to exercise here in Bermuda. Typically, Circuit Training takes place in a gym whereas Boot Camps are run in the beautiful surroundings on the island.
Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Katie Holmes, Carrie Underwood and Amanda Seyfried have been spotted leaving Boot Camp sessions over in the States proving its popularity.
This type of workout usually involves several stations of different exercises and each performed for up to 60 seconds. This makes it easy for the exerciser to stay focused and put in 100% effort at each station. It also keeps the sessions varied and it’s always motivating to work out in a competitive and fun group environment.
Circuits and Boot Camps are also some of the most effective ways to work the core and flatten the abs. If you want to train your midsection then it’s important to realise that the abs are not designed to be isolated. This means that endless ab crunches are out!
To work our core muscles properly we need to integrate the midsection with big movements. We do not simply pick and choose body parts because the body only knows movements and not muscles.
We’re an exact expression of what our ancestors were over 100,000 years ago. As it’s believed it takes 100,000 years for 0.001% of a genome to change, we are then essentially the same as Primal Man. Humans are hunters and gatherers and our bodies are designed to be able to carry out this function. Nowadays, we just pop down to Lindo’s to get our prey! We’ve become sedentary and do not move nearly as often as we should.
Circuit Training and Boot Camps include multi-directional exercises that integrate the core musculature. The abs are an intricate part of your core and is where all movement originates from. Performing each exercise for 60 seconds in the sample workout below will get every muscle in your body moving while burning fat and working those abs! Rest for two minutes at the end of the circuit and repeat again.
- Medicine Ball Wood Chop
- Suicide Push Ups
- Kettlebell Swings
- Side Lunge with Dumbbell Shoulder Press
- Tornado Ball Slam
